The Ministry of Works and Transport, in collaboration with the Uganda Police Force and Stirling Civil Engineering Limited, has announced the resumption of maintenance works on the Kampala Northern Bypass, Phase One (21 km). The works are set to commence on Saturday, December 28 and are expected to last for at least six months.

In a statement, Minister of Works and Transport Gen Edward Katumba-Wamala highlighted the scope of the project and urged road users to cooperate during the construction period.

“The road works focus on sections of the Kampala Northern Bypass, especially between the Kisaasi and Busega interchanges, and involve removing old asphalt, processing the base, priming, and laying a new asphalt overlay,” said Gen. Katumba-Wamala.

For safety and efficiency, sections of the affected carriageway will be fully closed, with traffic diverted to the opposite side. This diversion will remain in place both day and night during the construction period.

Despite the availability of the opposite carriageway for traffic, the minister advised road users to consider alternative routes to minimise delays. “Road users are still advised to plan their journeys and use alternative routes off the Northern Bypass to avoid delays,” he stated.

The ministry also emphasised the importance of adhering to safety measures during the works. “We kindly request road users to exercise maximum caution and adhere to the traffic and safety measures in place to minimise travel inconvenience,” Gen. Katumba-Wamala added.

The planned works are expected to enhance the durability and functionality of the bypass, ensuring safer and more efficient travel upon completion. Road users are encouraged to stay informed about traffic updates and cooperate with authorities during this period.
