Budaka Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Nusula Nabukalu, has died in a fatal road accident along the Jinja-Iganga highway.
The accident occurred at Baitambogwe village, Baitambogwe Sub-county, when the vehicle in which she was being chauffeured, registration number UG 4803C, collided head-on with a truck registered as KDH 025V.
Eyewitnesses report that Nabukalu was travelling from the Iganga side when the collision took place. They say the accident happened after her driver, Khalid Waiswa, attempted to overtake another vehicle. Nabukalu died on the spot while Waiswa was pronounced dead after being conveyed to hospital.
She had earlier attended a function in Nawansinge Village, Bulamagi Sub-county, Iganga District.
Her death was confirmed by Faruk Kirunda, the deputy press secretary to the Presidency, who expressed shock and sorrow over the tragic incident.
Trevor Solomon Baleke, the deputy RDC of Kayunga District and a close friend of the deceased, described her as a genuine friend whose warm smile came from the heart.
“Her untimely demise is a significant loss to the Presidency and the nation at large,” Baleke said.
By the time of this report, Nabukalu’s body was still at the scene of the accident, as authorities worked to clear the area.
