For King Saha, it was a fight against the tide. With hours to his show, word swirled that his show at Lugogo Cricket Oval had been cancelled to the consternation of the artiste, promoter and fans.
There was a unified sigh of relief when the concert was cleared. This led to a pilgrimage of fans, who flocked to Lugogo Cricket Oval as early as 9 am in the morning.
Numbers never lie. King Saha included his name in Ugandan music history by selling out the Lugogo Cricket Oval, joining foreign ranks like Wyclef Jean, Akon, UB-40 and R-Kelly among largest crowds ever witnessed.
The event, which was nothing short of spectacular, showcased Saha’s massive fan base and influence in the music industry. Whether the crowds attest to his talent or favour is a debate for another day.
Fans began streaming into the venue as early as 1 PM, and by 7 PM, the Oval was packed to capacity.
Due to the overwhelming turnout, security temporarily closed the VIP and ordinary gates at around 6:30 PM to control the crowds. After reopening the gates, the event proceeded smoothly.
The star-studded night featured performances by some of Uganda’s top artists, including Big Eye, Dax Vibez, Spice Diana, Daxx Kartel, Nina Roz, Pallaso, and Grenade Official.
Adding to the night’s magic, Bobi Wine and his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi graced the occasion to show their support for King Saha.
