The State House Anti-Graft, working with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, arraigned one Taremwa Jassy before Buganda Road Court on charges of obtaining money by false pretence.

The scandal that led to Taremwa’s arrest occurred last Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the National Identification and Registration Authority’s (NIRA) head office in Kampala.

According to the SHACU, it is alleged that Taremwa Jassy, with the intent to defraud, “obtained money from a person by falsely pretending that he was going to process the replacement of his lost National Identity Card in one week, whereas not.”

Taremwa was remanded and will appear in court again on February 6, 2025, for further mention of his case.
