The State House Anti-Corruption Unit [SHACU] and police have arraigned two people, including an octogenarian, before Mpigi magistrate court over allegations of land fraud.
The two suspects are Edward Bagala, a 47-year-old businessman, and Dimitiria Nalukwago, an 85-year-old, both residents of Nakirebe village in Mpigi district.
The two were arraigned before Mpigi grade one magistrate, Fatumah Nabirye, and charged with two counts of forcible entry and conspiracy to commit felony.
Prosecution heard that the two people between August 2022 and August 2024, at Nakirebe village, Kiringente subcounty, in Mpigi district, violently graded the land and also cut down trees located on block 119 Mawokota, plot 2, belonging to the family of the late Emmanuel Kawooya.
The court also heard that Edward Bagala, while in Nakasero, Kampala city, knowingly uttered to D/ASP Justus Twinamasiko, a police detective working with the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, false letters of probate issued to Dimitiria Nalukwago, purporting to be the rightful owners of the Kibanja, on the late Emmanuel Kawooya’s land.
The two pleaded not guilty to the charges. Dimitiria Nalukwago was released on court bail due to her advanced age, while Edward Bagala was remanded to prison until September 11, 2024.
