President Museveni has appointed Dr. Crispus Kiyonga as the new Chancellor of Makerere University.
Professor Barnabas Nawangwe the Vice Chancellor, Makerere University confirmed his appointment on X.
“His Excellency the President of Uganda has appointed Dr. Crispus Kiyonga as the new Chancellor of Makerere University. On behalf of Makerere University Council, I extend our warm congratulations to Dr. Kiyonga on this prestigious appointment and warmly welcome him to the service of Makerere University,” said Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe on X.
The former defence minister takes over from Prof. Ezra Suruma who took over the chancellorship in January 2016 and his term expired in December 2023. Previous chancellors of Makerere University in recent times include Prof. George Mondo Kagonyera (2007-2015) and Prof. Apollo Nsibambi ( 2003-2007)
