The National Unity Platform’s principal, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) has been shot in the leg in a confrontation with police in the suburbs of Bulindo, Wakiso District.
Photos posted online on Tuesday showed Wine surrounded by followers who yelled that he had been shot in the leg before some supported him into a waiting car.
In a post on X, the party said that security operatives “have made an attempt on the life of” Wine, “He was shot in the leg and seriously injured,” it said.
A statement from the police said officers on site reported that Bobi Wine had stumbled while getting into his vehicle.
The police say Bobi Wine had attended an event at Bulindo and afterwards “he and his team moved out of their cars and embarked on a procession up to Bulindo town.
“However, the police advised against it. Despite their guidance, he insisted on proceeding… closing the road, leading to police intervention to prevent the procession.
“During the ensuing altercation, it is alleged that he sustained injuries,” the statement said.
