President Yoweri Museveni is expected to pay his last respects to late defence state Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi at Parliament in Kampala on Tuesday, September 10.
In a notice to members of parliament on Saturday, Adolf Mwesige Kasaija, the clerk to Parliament, urged the MPs to turn up on Tuesday and pay their last respects to their fallen colleague.
“Parliament will pay tribute to the late Nyirabashitsi, who was also the District Woman MP for Kisoro and Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs, who passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024,” Mwesigye said.
He said the body of the late Nyirabashitsi will be brought to Parliament at noon for viewing by MPs and the public.
“Thereafter, there will be a Special Sitting of Parliament at 2:00pm where a motion to pay tribute to the late Nyirabashitsi will be moved,” Mwesigye added.
He said thereafter, “At 5:30pm, the body will be moved to the tent in the South Wing parking lot, where President Museveni will pay his last respects to Nyirabashitsi.”
The late Minister passed away on Saturday morning as she was being rushed to Mengo Hospital in Kampala for emergency treatment after she reportedly developed heart-related complications.
She will be buried on Saturday, September 14, 2024, in Kisoro district.
