President Museveni has fired KCCA Executive Director, Dorothy Kisaka and her deputy, Eng. David Luyimbaazi over the Kiteezi landfill tragedy.

Museveni also sacked the KCCA Director for public health, Dr.Daniel Okello.

The tragedy saw Kampala’s landfill collapse, following a heavy downpour burying a number of nearby houses and people who were working there

Over 30 were killed and others injured, while many are still missing according to their families.

State House said in a statement on Tuesday that the sacking was in response to an IGG investigation into the mess at Kiteezi which led to death of over 30 people in last month’s tragedy at the country’s biggest landfill.

“The IGG’s report clearly outlined the severe oversight and negligence exhibited by these officials. In light of these findings, the President has called upon the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and other crime management agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter further focusing on the angle of criminal negligence associated with this distressing event,” State House said.

In the same vein, the president has directed the Public Service Commission to advertise the positions of Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, and Director of Public Health, with a goal of appointing new officials within three months.

“Additionally, the Minister for Kampala is tasked with advising the President on interim appointments for these crucial positions to ensure that operations within KCCA continue without disruption until permanent replacements are in place.”
