The murders took place at around 19:30 hours at Amonomito cell, Bediworo ward, Apala Town Council, Alebtong District. Norman Bilal Ogwal, a social worker and resident of the area, reported the incident at Apala police station.

According to community members, Jimmy Omaa, 32, followed his 82-year-old grandmother, Jane Acio, to her home, broke the door, entered, and dragged her outside. He then cut her several times on the head under unclear circumstances. Acio who was left bleeding later succumbed to her injuries

The community, upon learning of the incident, began searching for Omaa, who was subsequently arrested and lynched

Patrick Jimmy Okema, police spokesperson for North Kyoga,  said  that preliminary findings indicate Omaa killed his grandmother while under the influence of opium and alcohol, substances he had been abusing.

Okema added that the Scene of Crime Officer from Alebtong District visited the scene, examined, and documented the evidence.

The police conducted postmortems on both bodies and handed the bodies over to the relatives for burial.

“No arrests have been made regarding the suspected mob murder, but efforts to apprehend those involved are ongoing,” Okema said.

The police caution the public against drug abuse and mob justice, emphasizing that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.
