Abba Marcus Mayanja, the son of singer Joseph Mayanja, also known as Jose Chameleone, has criticised his grandparents for their lack of responsibility towards his father.
His remarks come just days after Chameleone was hospitalised at Nakasero Hospital
In a TikTok video, Abba disclosed that his father is suffering from acute pancreatitis.
The pancreas is a gland in the back of the belly that helps with digestive and endocrine system
Acute pancreatitis is caused by, among others, prolonged heavy consumption of alcohol.
Some sources say Chameleone is also suffering from liver disease.
Robert Kyagulanyi, Bobi Wine who shared an enduring musical rivalry with Chameleone, said last week he had visited the singer in a Kampala hospital but could not see him as he was sedated at the time.
Abba expressed frustration over what he said is apparent neglect from his father’s parents and close friends regarding his father’s well-being
“Never in my life have I seen such unconcerned parents that are so careless about their children’s wellbeing. In this case I am talking about my father’s parents,” Abba said.
“You would expect my father’s parents to care about him the most if anything being their favourite child considering he gave them his name. No one in the country would know who the Mayanjas are if it wasn’t because of my father,” Abba added.
He also accused his father’s “irresponsible” close friends for not prioritizing his health and instead taking advantage of him.
“The people around my father do not care about his wellbeing, do not have his best interests at heart. If his friends were actually his friends, my father wouldn’t be in this circumstance.
“They just don’t care about him. They don’t care about him, they just care about the monetary value,” Abba disclosed.
He went ahead to hold the same parents responsible for the deaths of his two uncles, Emmanuel Mayanja, known as AK47, and Humphrey Mayanja.
AK47 passed away in 2012 after losing consciousness at his manager Jeff Kiwa’s bar, Dejavu, in Kampala.
Humphrey Mayanja, the older brother of the musical trio consisting of Jose Chameleone, Weasel Manizo, and Pallaso, succumbed to cancer in March 2024
Abba claims that the deaths of his two uncles were a result of their parents’ negligence.
“So, far, I have already lost two uncles and that’s because of complete and utter irresponsibility these people’s parents.”
For a long time, the Mayanja singing siblings have faced criticism for their drinking habits and violent behavior, with instances of them appearing intoxicated in public.
Some, including Chameleone’s ex-wife, Daniella Atim – who shares four children with him – have consistently criticized the siblings’ parents for their troubling drinking and violent actions.
In 2022, following an incident where Douglas Mayanja, also known as Weasel, was filmed assaulting his wife Sandra Teta while visibly intoxicated, Daniella placed blame on her mother-in-law for negatively influencing her sons’ behaviour.
She accused her mother-in-law of shielding her children from accountability and instead blaming their wives for not knowing how to manage them.
“Dear mama, this doesn’t bring any practical solutions, it only empowers them to keep up what they do because in your eyes it is always a woman’s fault. “She must have provoked him etc etc” you always say,” Daniella said.
“Dear mama, the time is now, take back your position as a parent and start doing the work, we have the most impact on our children, a duty entrusted to us by God,” she added.
