Ugandan musician-turned-politician Bobi Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu) has achieved a significant milestone by graduating with a Bachelor of Laws degree from Cavendish University.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Bobi Wine shared his journey, which began in August 2016 when he attended his first law lecture at the International University of East Africa. The idea of pursuing a law degree was conceived 20 years ago during a conversation with fellow artist and lawyer Sylver Kyagulanyi while they were still studying Music, Dance, and Drama at Makerere University.
Bobi Wine expressed gratitude to those who supported him throughout his journey, including friends, lecturers, his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi, and David Lewis Rubongoya. Rubongoya, who was once his lecturer, advised him to transfer from the International University of East Africa to Cavendish University, which was already accredited to teach law.
Although Bobi Wine faced delays due to accreditation issues and missing a few lectures, he persevered and completed his degree. He was initially supposed to graduate last year but was delayed due to missing a few lectures in one course unit.
Bobi Wine also addressed the actions of individuals who petitioned and challenged his graduation, leading officials from the National Council for Higher Education to scrutinize his academic records. However, after a thorough and intense investigation, he was cleared to graduate.
This achievement marks another milestone in Bobi Wine’s diverse career, further solidifying his commitment to personal growth and public service.”
