Cedric Babu burial set for Saturday in Mpigi

The departed  Cedric Babu, son to politician Capt. Francis Babu, will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kamengo, Mpigi District, on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

According to the official burial program released by the Babu family, prayers will be held at Cedric’s residence on Fumu Close in Kololo from Sunday, June 1 to Tuesday, June 3 at 5:00 PM each day.

On Wednesday and Thursday, a special mass will be conducted at his father’s residence in Naguru at 6:00 PM, followed by a night vigil at 8:00 PM.

On Friday, there will be for a requiem mass at Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala, and later that evening, Cedric’s body will be transported to Kamengo in Mpigi for another vigil ahead of Saturday’s burial.

The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, led the nation in mourning Cedric Babu, describing him as a close friend, patriot, and a man of diverse talent.

“I join the family of Capt. Francis Babu to mourn the passing of my brother, my close friend and comrade in the struggle, Cedric Babu, who passed away yesterday in Nairobi,” Gen Muhoozi posted on X.

“Cedric stood out amongst his peers as an individual who had a rich and wide spectrum of talents. He had a passion for sports in which he excelled. He played tennis with a skill that made him amongst the best that our country has ever produced.”

The PLU General Chairman praised Cedric’s political courage and loyalty to the ruling party, noting that despite losing in the general elections after winning the NRM primaries for Kampala Central, he remained committed to public service and political engagement.

“Cedric was an optimist, always thinking about tomorrow, a better tomorrow. He is survived by a wife and three handsome boys who love sports like their father did,” Gen Muhoozi noted, adding, “It is for all these talents and many more that I appointed him Vice Chairman for Kampala on the Central Committee of PLU.”

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among also conveyed condolences to the Babu family, praying for divine strength and peace during this difficult period.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of our elder, Hon. Captain Francis Babu, as well as to friends and relatives, on the passing of Cedric Babu. May the Lord Almighty grant you the strength to navigate this difficult time, and may Cedric’s soul rest in eternal peace,” she said.

Among’s Deputy, Hon Thomas Tayebwa, echoed similar sentiments, noting Cedric’s sportsmanship, entrepreneurial success, political boldness, and dedication to Uganda’s future.

“He was a nationalist and a patriot. Where many children of Uganda’s elite families eschew politics, Cedric had the courage to participate in the governance of his country,” Tayebwa stated.
