New details have emerged surrounding the tragic motorbike accident that claimed the life of renowned photojournalist Byakuleka Saad, popularly known as Saad Shots, along Entebbe Airport road on Friday evening.
The fatal crash occurred at around 6:30 PM at the Air Force junction near Peniel Beach Hotel, along the route connecting Bugonga Zone to the Airbase.
Saad was riding in a group of bikers headed to Lido Beach to mark Good Friday when he got involved in the head-on collision with another motorcyclist under unclear but alarming circumstances.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the 31-year-old photographer, who was riding a Kawasaki sports bike with registration number UEO 292N, failed to slow down at the junction and crashed into a Bajaj Boxer, registration UDY 402Z, ridden by a yet-to-be-identified boda boda operator. Both riders died instantly at the scene.
“He was riding fast, maybe too fast for that junction,” one witness recounted. “He didn’t brake, and by the time anyone realized what was happening, it was too late.”
The impact, according to eyewitnesses, was so severe that both motorcycles were left mangled beyond repair. Security personnel from the nearby Air Force base were among the first to respond, quickly calling in Entebbe Police, who secured the scene.
The bodies of the deceased were transported to the city mortuary, and the wreckage towed to Entebbe Police Station.
Saad Shots was a respected photojournalist and videographer affiliated with a national television station. His work, known for its creative depth and human touch, earned him admiration across Uganda’s media industry.
The 31-year-old father of one son had recently taken up biking as a hobby and often rode with close friends on weekend hangouts. Friday’s ride was meant to be a simple beach outing, a plan that tragically ended just a few meters away from his destination.
He will be laid to rest on Sunday, April 20 at Kazo-Kitongore in Kiruhura District
