A disgraced Police officer, who was dismissed from the Uganda Police Force (UPF), is currently in custody for allegedly impersonating a traffic officer in Kampala.
Issac Newton Ojok, 36, who previously served as a Police Constable, was apprehended by Old Kampala Police for allegedly unlawfully seizing motorcycles while pretending to be a traffic officer.
“On September 19, 2024, at around 1900 hours, Police Constable Ojok Isaac Newton, was apprehended by the Old Kampala Police for unlawfully impounding motorcycles on the Queensway Flyover that feeds into Entebbe Road while posing as a traffic officer,” the Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said.
During the weekly joint media briefing at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala on September 23, 2024, Kituuma said the incident took place after Ojok had already been dismissed from the Police force.
Ojok, who had previously worked in the Counter-Terrorism Tourism unit, was let go due to disciplinary-related issues.
Despite his termination, Police said he continued to pose as a traffic officer and engaged in unauthorised activities.
Kituuma stated that the former officer is to face legal repercussions for his actions.
Investigations revealed that Ojok was allegedly impounding bodabodas and demanding a payment of shillings 50,000 for their release.
This led to complaints from frustrated bodaboda operators, ultimately resulting in his arrest.
Kituuma emphasized that the Uganda Police Force is dedicated to taking strong action against impersonators and encourages the public to report any suspicious individuals they may encounter.
