Five individuals accused of selling counterfeit tickets for the Uganda Vs Guinea FIFA World Cup qualifier match have been remanded to prison following their appearance before the Rubaga/Nateete Magistrates Court today.
The suspects identified as Kaga Ibrahim, Ssenkangu Ronald, Lubega Moses Mukiibi, Musasizi Stuart, and Bukenya Ephraim were arrested last week on suspicion of peddling fake tickets to unsuspecting football fans for the match that occurred at Namboole on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
During their appearance in Monday’s court session, the accused were ordered to remain in custody until April 16, 2025, pending further investigation and trial.
Their arrest comes in the wake of heightened security measures implemented by FUFA and the Namboole Stadium security team, aimed at ensuring smooth entry procedures for genuine ticket holders.
Ahead of the match, FUFA and the Uganda Police Force had issued warnings about fake tickets, cautioning fans to purchase only from authorized vendors
In recent Cranes matches, several fans have been denied entry due to the possession of fake tickets, sparking frustration and calls for stricter enforcement.
FUFA announced last week that they had introduced tickets with enhanced security features, such as barcodes, unique colors, and silver linings, to combat forgery.
The football governing body revealed that even with stringent measures in place, unscrupulous individuals continue to exploit the high demand for tickets to deceive unsuspecting fans.
The arrest and remand of the five individuals serve as a warning to those engaging in fraudulent activities, particularly in the sports industry. FUFA urges Ugandan football fans to purchase tickets exclusively from authorized outlets to avoid falling victim to scams.
With Uganda preparing to host the CHAN 2025 tournament, authorities are expected to continue enforcing strict measures to curb ticket fraud and enhance matchday security for future international fixtures.
