A bitter row has erupted in the family of former Kampala Mayor, John Ssebaana Kizito, over his estate.
A prominent politician and businessman, Ssebana died on July 3, 2017 at Nakasero Hospital. He was 82.
Since his death, his family has largely remained out of the public eye, except for a bitter property dispute that emerged in 2018.
Recently, however, new allegations have surfaced involving one of his grandchildren, who accuses another family member of attempting to evict him and his siblings.
Alexander Ssenkya Kizito, son of the late Job Muwanga Kizito—who was himself a son of the late Ssebana—has come forward with serious accusations in a video posted on X. He claims that John Mubiru Kizito, the youngest son of the late Ssebana, has been mistreating them and has long sought to evict them from the house their grandfather left for them.
Ssenkya further alleges that the caretaker Mubiru appointed to look after them has been mistreating them, to the extent that they have been denied food and are on the brink of starvation.
Additionally, Ssenkya accuses Mubiru, who lives abroad of consistently selling off properties, including those left to their late father by their late grandfather.
“Before Grandfather died, he left some land next to Chicken Tonight in Kasanga to my father, as well as the building housing Chicken Tonight in Kansanga. We had hoped that with the rent from that property, we could survive, but we have never received anything. Our uncle has taken it all,” Ssenkya claims.
Since their grandfather’s death, Ssenkya and his siblings have endured so much hardship that they have begun to question whether Mubiru is truly their uncle. Ssenkya is now demanding a DNA test to confirm their familial relationship.
“For someone who claims to be our uncle, the way he treats us makes it hard to believe we are related by blood. I want us to take a DNA test so we can establish the truth,” Ssenkya stated.
The 24-year-old has now taken his uncle to court, accusing him of mismanaging the estate and tampering with the will.
