More than 88 FDC supporters arrested in free my vote protests

Police have for the last two days been arresting FDC and other opposition supporters who have been engaging in the free my vote campaign. The total number confirmed by Patrick Onyango, the Police Spokesperson is now 88 and he went on to say that some were picked from different areas of the country and others from within areas of Kampala Metropolitan. The areas where these people were picked from included Kampala, Fort Portal, Mbarara, and Mbale towns among others.

On the first day of the arrests in Kampala, about 30 people were arrested from areas of Najjanankumbi at the FDC head offices and some notable names included Julius Kyaligonza, Martha Kigongo, Solomon Magumba, Hilary Ongom, Patience Ahimbisibwe and Musaazi Crhis among others. All these are said to be FDC supporters and mobilizers. The second day had Dr Kizza Besigye the President of FDC and other supporters also arrested in the city centre when they were marching to City Square where they were meant to launch the free my vote campaign.
A week ago, the Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma issued an interim order banning FDC and their leader Dr Kizza Besigye from having any campaigns, meetings and press conferences.
