Tempers flared in Sembabule Town Council on Sunday after Lwemiyaga County Member of Parliament Theodore Ssekikubo caused a scene during a public rally addressed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The incident unfolded moments after ex-Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Sam Kahamba Kutesa delivered his speech urging unity and backing President Museveni’s sole candidacy in the forthcoming elections.
As Kutesa invited Mawogola West MP and State Minister for Health (General Duties), Hon. Hanifa Kawooya, to speak, Ssekikubo abruptly approached the podium and attempted to seize the microphone.
Eyewitnesses say Kutesa tried to restrain him, warning, “Ssekikubo, please don’t do this.” Security personnel from the Special Forces Command (SFC) quickly intervened and forcefully escorted Ssekikuubo from the venue as President Museveni and the crowd looked on.
Speaking to journalists later, Ssekikubo defended his actions, insisting he deserved a platform to speak on issues affecting his constituents. “There is a plan to oust me as MP and silence me from raising the real issues that our people are facing,” he alleged.
Hon. Musherure lauded the President for transformative initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, expanded electricity, and piped water projects.
Earlier, Hon. Sam Kutesa had cautioned against internal divisions within the NRM party, warning that infighting weakens the movement and offers opportunities for infiltration. “We must remain united behind President Museveni as the sole candidate to secure our future,” Kutesa said.
Hon. Hanifa Kawooya also thanked President Museveni for prioritizing economic empowerment and pledged that local leaders would continue mobilizing communities to embrace government development programs.
