A 25-year-old man has been detained by police after he was nabbed in Banda suburbs (Kampala City) in connection with vandalising motor vehicles and stealing registration number plates.
Gerald Maara was picked from Banda B1 after a police search at his residence last week.
‘We recovered number plates believed to have been illegally removed from various vehicles or taken from stolen cars,” said Uganda Police Force spokesman Kituuma Rusoke.
On September 17, 2024, Tazib Rajab, a resident of Naguru parish in Nakawa Division, discovered that his vehicle (Registration No. UAM 203Y) was missing its front number plate.

Rajab decided to report the incident to the police instead of complying with the ransom demand. Following his report to police, we tracked down and arrested “
Kituuma commended Tazib for promptly involving police.
“Many victims often resort to paying ransoms; however, this approach frequently fails to yield results as offenders continue to change their demands and ask for more money.” He said.
