NUP supporters arrested in Kalangala get police bond

After close to 3 months in detention, 37 NUP supporters were finally given bond after the Minister of Works and Transport Gen Katumba Wamala the Minister of Works and Transport Minister ordered for their release because they didn’t have cases to answer.
Thirty -seven National Unity Platform-NUP supporters who were arrested during the campaign of their presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu in Kalangala district on December 30, 2020. They were directed to report to Kalangala police station on January 12, 2021. The 37 suspects were picked up together with 94 others including the advance team of Kyagulanyi. 37 suspects were natives of the island’s district while 57 were from other parts of the country.
Richard Kabanda Kiggundu, one of the residents, has condemned the arrest and subsequent detention of the suspects, saying his sister Sarah Nakabanda was on her way home when she was arrested.
Ronald Lwanga, the Kalangala district NUP registrar has asked police to exercise fairness while arresting Ugandans. Lwanga said arresting and detaining people for over 5 days and releasing them without charge defeats justice and fairness.
Among the arrested NUP supporters included Ali Bukeni alias Nubian Li, Edward Ssebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe, Hassan Ssemakula alias Abdul Souldier, Kenny Kyalimpa, Kalule JohnBaptist Gift, Lukeman Mwijukye alias Kampala, Ibrahim Tamale, Muzafuru Mwanje alias Main Gate alias Muwa, Achileo Kivumbi, Joseph Onzima alias Tawa, Anthony Agaba alias Bobi Young, Robert Kivumbi alias Mighty Family and Brian Ssemanda alias Dictator Museveni Must Go. The others are Geoffrey Mutalya, Musinguzi Simon , NBS Journalist Olivia Lutaaya, Richard Kalema alias Ricardo, Alex Karamagi alias Doggy city, Daniel Onywerot alias Dan Magic, Isma Muganga alias Jaja Isma and Baker Kalyango.
