Police identify female  jogger killed on Northern Bypass

Police have identified the woman whose body was  dumped at Agenda Bridge, Kamuli A Zone, Kireka in Kira Municipality, Wakiso district.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, said further investigation into the murder reported on September 29, 2024, had led to the identification of the victim.
“The deceased is Agnes Nantongo, a manager at African Oil Petrol Station. She was last seen leaving her workplace on Saturday at approximately 7:00 p.m. wearing the same clothing found on her body on Sunday morning,” Onyango said.
He explained that on Sunday at about 8:00 am, passersby alerted authorities to a lifeless body of a woman lying in the shrubs by the roadside. Police responded promptly and initiated enquiries.
“The investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding Agnes Nantongo’s death. The Uganda Police Force urges anyone with information regarding this case to contact the police,” Onyango added.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango said Kireka Police was treating it as a murder case.
“Preliminary findings suggest the victim may have been struck with a blunt object while jogging, based on the tracksuit she was wearing. The police are currently conducting enquiries to gather more information about the incident,” he added.
He appealed to anyone with information about the case or a missing person to please contact the Kireka police station or any nearest police station.
The Northern Bypass is one of the roads in Kampala with the highest numbers of muggings and robberies.
Police on Sunday, August 24, 2024, confirmed it had fatally shot  a man  suspected to be part of a  gang  responsible for robberies  targeting people who use the Northern Bypass.
