Police in Kalaki district have launched investigations into the tragic murder of Dr. Wilfred Olila, a senior medical doctor specialising in Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) and a lecturer at Soroti University.

Olila’s body was discovered last Friday, abandoned along the Otuboi-Abalanga road in Ogolai village, Ogwolo sub-county. According to the police report shared by East Kyoga Regional police commander Damalie Nachuha, the victim’s hands and legs were bound with ropes, and his face bore signs of trauma.

“The face had dry blood, which oozed from the mouth and nose, and the head had a blood-stained bandage wrapped around it,” the report noted.

His body was later transferred to Kaberamaido hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. The police have urged the public to provide any information that might aid the ongoing investigations.

The Uganda Medical Association (UMA) issued a strong condemnation of the killing in a statement released by its National Executive Committee.

“We strongly condemn the violent attacks on doctors, who selflessly dedicate their lives to saving others. This act of brutality against a healer, who stood as a beacon of hope for countless lives, is a grave injustice. As a community, we stand united in demanding respect and protection for our noble profession,” read part of the statement.

Dr. Olila, originally from Lira City, was a distinguished professional with a long-standing career in medicine and education. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from Makerere University in 1984 and later specialised with a Master of Medicine in ENT from the same institution in 2008.

Beyond his clinical work, Olila was a visionary who contributed to private healthcare initiatives and was deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of medical professionals as a lecturer at Soroti University.
