President Museveni grants Onapito an official burial

President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday, September 29, 2024 granted former Member of Parliament for Amuria and Presidential Press Secretary, Onapito Ekomoloit who passed away on Friday morning, an official burial.
Milly Babalanda the Minister for Presidency while announcing the President’s decision noted that, “accordingly, the National Organizing Committee (NOC) will liaise with Parliament of Uganda to organise the programme for a befitting send-off. Condolences to the family, the people of Teso and all Ugandans,” she said.
An official burial is granted by the President to anyone with an extraordinary performance and government meets all the costs incurred during the burial process.
During state funerals, the government takes control of the burial arrangements, which are usually accorded to politicians and former Presidents.
Onapito, popularly known as ‘Ona’ among colleagues and compatriots, a man who wore many hats — as a journalist, presidential press secretary, legislator, board chair and political commentator died on Friday while being rushed to Kampala Hospital.
At the time of his death, Onapito was the board chairperson of Nile Breweries a position he took over in August last year having served as head of corporate affairs at the same organisation for over 17 years.
