A total of 523 drivers have been arrested in a traffic Police operation targeting areas in Kampala city, including Katwe, Wandegeya and Jinja Road.
Among those arrested are 72 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura says.
The operations, conducted over the weekend, also resulted in the arrest of 451 drivers for offences related to driving permits.
According to Kananura, several drivers were found operating vehicles without valid licences, while others were using forged permits.
Kananura made the remarks during the joint security briefing held at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.
He emphasised the police’s ongoing efforts to crack down on reckless driving and illegal practices on the roads.
“The arrest of these drivers is part of our continued mission to ensure road safety and hold those violating traffic regulations accountable,” Kananura stated.
