A 40-year-old American tourist has been confirmed dead, while three others are currently nursing critical injuries at Bwindi Hospital following a tragic road crash that occurred at Kakureiju village, Kanungu District, in the wee hours of Monday morning.
The crash that took place around 7:00 am involved a Toyota Land Cruiser Reg number UAM 271U, driven by 33-year-old Alpha Dadaire from Wakiso District.
According to SP Michael Kananura, the traffic police spokesperson, the vehicle, carrying three American tourists, failed to brake while navigating a sharp corner on a slope, which caused the driver to lose control, and the vehicle rolled multiple times before crashing at the base of Kyeshero Bridge.
“The vehicle, carrying American tourists, failed to brake while navigating a sharp corner on a slope, lost control, and rolled several times before ending up in the river at Kyeshero Bridge. The crash resulted in the death of Shuldman Harrison Evan, a 40-year-old resident of New York, USA,” SP Kananura said.
He identified the other three victims as Zachary Avayou, 39, and Jeremy Frederick Wright, 25, both American nationals, and Alpha Dadaire, the 33-year-old driver of the vehicle.
Kananura added that the injured victims were swiftly transported to Bwindi Hospital for treatment. The body of the deceased has also been conveyed to the same hospital.
